As the 12th Std gets over, parents and children alike embark on a journey which shall take them through various educational institutions, courses, prospectus, eligibility requirements, cut off marks, entrance exams, fees, loans, cities, placements etc to a fulfilling career.
After having zeroed on the institution comes the most crucial aspect of learning, the cost of living, be it institutional hostel or a private hostel or a private accommodation. It's an irony that sometimes the expenses at the hostel are more than the tuition fee of the particular course. It is at this stage a paying guest facility comes as a boon to many parents who can't afford exorbitant rental of hostel. Exorbitant costs are justified by offering facilities and amenities which are comparable to any star rated hotel.
In my opinion luxuries of life at this stage not only makes our children complacent but also makes them not realize the fact that how hard their parents have worked to give them the platform for their quality education. I have come across many such parents who wished that their children study in the best institutions but just the cost of lodging and boarding in a hostel desist their ambitious plan. You see after all we all live in materialistic world.
So, where does this leave us at? Besides institutional hostel there are hoardes of private hostels who claim to provide facilities at par but the private hostel fee is no less as there's a massive investment right from land, building, furnishing, manpower costs which pushes the cost per student.
On the other hand paying guest accommodation overheads are comparatively less, there no much investment yet they offer more or less same facilities. The biggest advantage being that most PG services are owned, managed and run by the family members themselves. Proper hygiene, home cooked food, customization with personal care turns the tide in their favour. The charges are almost 55 to 65 percent resulting in huge savings over a period of 3 to 4 years.
Having differentiated each proposition has its own merits and demerits which is carefully evaluated by prospective parents who wish their child gets the best education along with a quality life suited according to their budget.
